SAME Kaiserslautern Post 2025 Scholarship
Instructions and Application Form


BACKGROUND: The Kaiserslautern Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) awards scholarships annually to high school seniors who plan to study in the engineering field or related technical sciences after high school graduation. SAME is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “Build leaders and lead collaboration among government and industry to develop multidisciplined solutions to national security infrastructure challenges.” Further information on SAME can be found at www.same.org.
SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for an award, the scholarship applicant must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • A 2024 graduating senior from either:
    • The Baumholder, Kaiserslautern, Ramstein, or Spangdahlem High School or
    • A Home-Schooled student located near the Baumholder, Kaiserslautern, Ramstein or Spangdahlem military community.
  • Intending to pursue, on a full-time basis, an undergraduate degree in any engineering field or related technical sciences (including environmental studies, architecture, math, biology, chemistry, geology, or natural sciences) beginning in Summer or Fall 2024.
  • Be accepted at an accredited college or university. If acceptance has not been received by application deadline, this will need to be verified prior to scholarship award.
  • If selected, must become a Society of American Military Engineer member (free of cost).

APPLICATION PACKAGE: All of the following must be included in the application package and submitted by 15 April 2024 via email to same.ktown.stem.camps@gmail.com

  • Completed and signed application form (this form – Pages 3 and 4 only)
  • Copy of high school transcripts including Fall semester grades for senior year
  • Copy of college/university acceptance letter(s) if available. If acceptance letter(s) is(are) not available by the application deadline, the applicant may be contacted in late May or early June to provide this information.

An original essay (325-500 words) on what attracts you to engineering/technical sciences and what you hope to contribute to society through a career in engineering/technical sciences.

Student Background (open format). Must address the following topics concerning the applicant:

  • Extracurricular School Activities
  • Community Service / Volunteer Activities
  • Honors and Awards Received
  • Work Experience (if any)



SELECTION: A diverse panel of SAME members will recommend selection(s) to the Kaiserslautern Post Board of Direction for approval. Selection will be based on:

  • Academic achievement
  • Character
  • Personal merit (demonstrated through leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, and motivation to serve and succeed)

AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIPS:

  • The Kaiserslautern Post will award two $1,000 dollar scholarships to high school seniors this year.
  • It is anticipated that award announcements will be sent via email no later than 24 May 2025.
  • The Kaiserslautern Post will work with each winner’s school to present the scholarship at the school’s senior awards ceremony. If the winner’s school is not conducting a senior awards ceremony, the Kaiserslautern Post will work with the family to arrange a presentation.
  • The scholarships are paid once the following are provided to the Kaiserslautern Post Scholarship Committee:

Documentation of full-time entrance (not just acceptance) into an accredited university/college

Documentation of SAME membership with affiliation to the closest SAME Post and Student Chapter (if present at chosen institution). Full-time student membership is free of cost. Enroll at https://www.same.org/membership-communities/join/student-membership/.
